How Did You Prepare For Jesus’ Birth?
Christmas is almost here. Advent ends on Christmas Eve. So are you ready for
Jesus? Hopefully, we will have all spent more time with Jesus in worship and
prayer. We also honor Him when we are kind to everyone including our family.
We celebrate special times in Jesus life such as Christmas and Easter. Let’s also
celebrate times with our family and friends. Spend these last few days of advent
getting ready for Jesus by creating memories and spending time with Him.
Old Testament – 2 Samuel 7:1-11, 16
There are two books named after the Prophet Samuel. The books of Samuel
follow the lives of King Saul and King David. King Saul was the first king of Israel
and King David ruled after Saul and wrote many of the psalms.
Here another prophet is speaking to King David. This prophet’s name is Nathan.
Nathan is speaking for God to David. He tells David that God will make David’s
kingdom a kingdom that lasts forever. Nathan tells David that the Messiah, Jesus,
will come from David’s family in the future.
New Testament – Luke 1:46-55
Here Mary sings of all the wonderful things that God has done for her. These
verses are known as “The Magnificat.” Magnificat is Latin and it means “I will tell
how great He is.” Remember Mary was very poor and very young when she
became Jesus’ mother. She may have only been 13 years old at the time. Think
of the courage and faith Mary had to sing this song.
New Testament – Romans 16:25-27
Paul writes a “doxology” in these two verses. A doxology is a short hymn of praise
to God. Paul praises God for His wisdom in sending Jesus as our savior.
New Testament – Luke 1:26-38
This happens before Mary sings her “Magnificat.” The angel, Gabriel, appears to
Mary. He has been sent by God to tell her that she will be Jesus’ mother. She has
questions for Gabriel. She still says “yes” to God and His plan.
What a lesson for us! Let’s ask ourselves how we can say “yes” to God always.

Jesus’ coming and the birth of his cousin, John The Baptist.

Advent Candle is Love
Today our candle on the Advent wreath is about Love. It is about God loving us so
much He gave His only Son, Jesus, for us. It is also about us loving each other.
