Pentecost Sunday 5

Zechariah 9:9-12

Prophets are messengers from God. Zechariah was a prophet who lived almost 2,500 years ago. This is a very long time ago. The Book of Zechariah is about the coming of Jesus Christ. His book is not only about Jesus’ first coming but it also tells of Jesus’ second coming.

Romans 7:15-25

The apostle Paul writes to the Romans about how hard it is to do the right thing even when we have Jesus in our hearts. Think about it. How often do you want to do something you know is not right and have to work really hard not to do it? Paul tells us that all believers will have this struggle. He also says when we listen and obey Jesus we will be able to do the right thing.

Matthew 11:16-19

Jesus is speaking to people listening to him. Jesus says they are saying mean and untrue words about Jesus’ cousin, John The Baptist. Jesus then also states they are saying mean and untrue words about Him. Here Jesus shows us the power of our words. Jesus says that it is like they are playing children’s games. He tells them in the future they will know the truth about John The Baptist and Jesus.

Below is a very popular hymn based on Matthew 11:16-19.

After listening to this hymn, read Matthew 11:16-19 again and see how these verses connect with this hymn.

May I be at peace. May my heart remain open. May I be aware of my true nature. May I be healed. May I be a source of healing to others. May I dwell in the breath of God. Amen.
