Holy means “set apart.” Holy Week is the week that sets Jesus’ life and death
apart from any human that has lived or ever will live. Holy Week which starts
with Palm Sunday ends with Easter. Between Palm Sunday and Easter, we
celebrate Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Vigil. Most Americans skip
the celebrations between Palm Sunday and Easter. This is sad because we will
not have experienced walking with Jesus on His journey to the cross. Our
brothers and sisters in Christ celebrate the Three Days with joy and reverence.
This year make a plan to at least participate in Maundy Thursday and Good Friday
online with us.
Maundy Thursday
Many churches celebrate Maundy Thursday with foot washing and communion.
Maundy comes from the Latin word “Mandate” or command. The new command
that Jesus gives His disciples and us is that we should love each other as He has
loved us. Maundy Thursday remembers Jesus’ Last Supper with His disciples.

Good Friday
This is the day when we remember that Jesus was tortured and nailed to a cross
to die for our sins. Then why is this “good?” It is “good” because Jesus’ death
takes away our sins and allows us to live with Him in heaven forever.

Easter Vigil
Our church at this time does not celebrate the Easter Vigil. Many churches do
celebrate it. It is an evening service that begins at sundown on Saturday evening
and goes until past midnight on Easter Sunday. This service is for us to remember
that Jesus died and was buried. Without his death and burial, there would be no
Easter. Below is a video of the Easter Vigil.
