Christ the King Sunday

Why do we celebrate Christ the King Sunday? It ends the long season of

Pentecost. It is the Sunday before the first Sunday of Advent. Jesus Christ is our

friend and brother. He is also King of the Universe because He is the Savior of the

Universe. Since He is part of the Trinity, He is also the Creator of the Universe.

This is very hard for us to wrap our minds around. He is also the King because one

day He will come to be king over the new world and new heaven. This is why we

celebrate Christ The King Sunday. Listen below to the happy celebration of the

Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir as they sing “Christ The King.”

Pentecost

Pentecost is the church season where we learn about Jesus’ miracles and stories

(parables). Pentecost is the season where we learn Jesus does not call us to be

perfect. Pentecost shows He calls to us in love and loves us. As a result, we are to

love Him and others. The main theme of His parables is to have faith and take the

first step toward Him even if it is scary.

Old Testament – Ezekiel 34

Ezekiel is with his fellow refugees far, far away from home. They were probably

also poor. These verses show us an age old problem. Those that have money

mistreat those who are poor. Here Ezekiel tells us that the Babylonians have

trampled over the rights of the Israelites. The Babylonians have taken everything

for themselves, left nothing for the Israelites and left everything destroyed.

Ezekiel is speaking to us too. We don’t think of ourselves as rich. We also don’t

think that we are mean to people who are poor. But, we are rich. We have

indoor plumbing, heat, cars and access to food. There are so many other

blessings we just take for granted. We are mean to the poor when we never think

of their needs. God is not asking us to solve their problems. He is only asking us

to do what we can. This week bring canned food to church for our food pantry.

The food pantry helps the poor in our neighborhood. Make this a weekly habit.

What will you thank God for this week?

Old Testament – Psalm 100

King David wrote this beautiful song. It tells us to make sing and thank God. This

psalm tells us God is good and takes care of us like a Shepherd. Listen to this

song below and think of all the ways God takes care of you.

New Testament – Ephesians 1:15-23

Paul wrote this letter to the Ephesians. Ephesians was the name for people who

lived in Ephesus. Ephesus was the most important city in what is now modern-day Turkey. Ephesus is one of the first places Paul started a church. Paul traveled

several times to Ephesus and it became one of the largest churches.

His words are for the Ephesians and for us. Paul tells us we have hope because

Jesus has called us to be His own. As a result, we have total access to Jesus in this

life and in heaven.

New Testament - Matthew 25:31-46

Jesus tells us what will happen when He comes again to judge the living and the

dead. Those who lived self-centered lives and never cared for anybody else will

go to hell. Those who helped others will be with Him in heaven. How scary this

is! We must remember Jesus doesn’t call us to live perfect lives. He asks us to do

our best. When was the last time you did something for someone else? What

can you do for family, friends and the poor? We can all do something and all we

do small or large makes a difference. Watch below to hear this lesson acted out.
