3rd Sunday of Easter

Luke 24: 13-35

Their were two men walking the the village Emmaus, and Jesus encountered them. The men were blind for noticing Jesus, they only saw Jesus as a regular man.

The men were talking about what had happened in the last couple of days...Jesus was crucified, and now women went to the tomb and Jesus was not there.

Jesus asked the two men what they were talking about.

They had said to Jesus, "The things about Jesus of Nazareth, who was the prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how our chief priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death and crucified him." -Luke 24: 19-20

As the walk went on Jesus would interpret the Scriptures to the men

If you were one of those men walking with Jesus, would you start thinking the man might be the Messiah as he's speaking scripture?

It started to get dark on the walk and the men were close to home. They did not want to leave the random man (Jesus) to find his way in the dark.

Would you have invited a stranger to your house? Why or why not?

They invited Jesus into their home, and they were going to eat dinner.

Jesus took the bread from the table and blessed it, broke it and gave it to them.

Once Jesus broke the break, their eyes were opened! They could recognize Jesus!

When they went to look back to see Jesus he had disappeared.

Later that day...

"The Lord has risen indeed, and he has appeared to Simon!" -Luke 24:34

Prayer:

God of daily bread, show up to me in my neighbors, face-to-face. In Jesus' name. Amen.
