2nd Sunday of Easter

Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you." -John 20:19

The same day that Jesus rose from the dead he visited the disciples and said, "Peace be with you."

Jesus showed the disciples his wounds on his hands and side.

How do you think the disciples reacted when they saw Jesus?

Please discuss this question with your child

The disciples were so excited to see Jesus.

Then Jesus said to them again,

"Peace be with you. As the father has sent me, so I send you." When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retrain the sins of any, they are retrained." -John 20:21-23

Thomas was the only disciple that was not at the house when Jesus came. He wasn't going to believe any of the disciples about seeing Jesus. Thomas said that he would only believe that Jesus has risen if he sees him and his wounds.

If you were a disciple and you weren't at the house with the others like Thomas, would you believe that Jesus rose from the dead or would you have to see Jesus for yourself?

Please discuss this question with your child.

Later in the week Jesus came to the disciples house again and Thomas was there too.

When Thomas saw Jesus he finally believed.

Jesus wants to teach us that we should believe spiritually...

Jesus said to Thomas, "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe."-John 20:29

Jesus did many other signs with the disciples, but they were not written.

"But these are written that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may live in his name." -John 20:31

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, open door today and let in your breath of life. In Jesus' name. Amen.
